what is strategic facilitation?

Strategic Facilitation is a process of purposefully and diligently aligning your practices with your goals and values. Strategic Facilitation is a method to help you walk your talk, with guidance and support!

Our experienced facilitation team will alleviate some of the work for your next group staff retreat, board meeting, strategic planning session or community meeting.

  • Facilitator, Strategic Advisor  

    Omi’s facilitation is guided by Black Feminist principles and theatrical jazz aesthetics. Her work focuses on using art as a strategy for everyone seeking social transformation. She founded and co-facilitated The Austin Project (2001-2011)—a collective of Global Majority women and allies who use art for personal growth and social change, as well as The Diaspora Project (2019-2020)—an in-person and virtual gathering of Black women art makers. She has conducted workshops for Solidaire Network, The Ford Foundation, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Educafro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Thousand Currents, the Institute on Governance and Democracy (Ile-Ife, Nigeria), and a host of academic institutions. Omi holds a Ph.D. from New York University, and an Embodied Social Justice Certificate from Transformative Change. Omi is Professor Emerita from the African and African Diaspora Studies Department at the University of Texas at Austin, a mother, a Queer wife and a curious sojourner. Omi’s intergenerational leadership and depth of experience across fields of social justice provide invaluable frameworks for strategic planning processes with our clients.

    Leigh Robbie’s work is informed by over a decade of experience connecting communities to land, food and sustainable life practices, and nearly 2 decades of experience as a trained facilitator. At UC Santa Cruz's Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) she managed the historic Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture, guiding a the center’s strategic planning process and facilitating the apprenticeship program’s redesign and relaunch. Her work as a facilitator is greatly influenced by years spent leading and learning alongside teenagers at the farming organization, Urban Roots, managing the community food project, Alemany Farm, and directing the education department at Foodwise. As the Chief Creative Officer of The Nest, Leigh Robbie brings equal parts experience and enthusiasm to her curation and leadership of the Woven Studios strategic planning and facilitation team.
